The Black Rock Roller Disco is one of the most beloved camps at Burning Man. We bring the kind of fun, interactive experience that is the essence of what Burning Man is all about. It is through working together to present the best experience possible that will make the roller disco an awarding winning camp in 2015.
The roller disco camp will be located near 7:30 on the Esplanade. We will know exactly where about 2 weeks before we leave for the playa. I love being able to look out and see the Man from the DJ booth. We had great placement last year, but it was a lot of work for everyone.
We will continue to improve the quality of the roller rink floor this year. We're committed to being at Burning Man for the next 5 years, so we must have a great floor and camp structure that will withstand the trama of the playa. We also have a storage and delivery facility where we can store the rink and camp gear.
We have figured to total costs to present the Black Rock Roller Disco theme camp will be $9, 710.00. This will allow us to purchase the materials for a new floor layer and camp structure and get it all transported to the playa. We will raise those funds through fundraising parties, Kickstarter and through camp fees.
We usually have from 30 to 45 people camping with us. Each person camping with the roller disco must pay a camp fee of $150.00 per person. If you plan to camp with the roller disco, you can pay the camp fees through PayPal to Sk8GodFather@earthlink.net or send a check to David Miles, 830 26th Ave. S.F. CA. 94121. It is important that you do this ASAP because we are now spending money on what we need and I hate having to deal with money on the playa.
Make your plans now!!! I need to know when you are coming to the playa. If you plan to arrive before the event opens, you will need an early arrival pass. I must apply for your early arrival pass so if I don't know you plan to come early, you're going to be waiting outside the gate for long time. I will be leaving for the playa early Sunday morning, Aug. 19, 2015. Craig Lee, Bill Fukuba and I are following each other. I am NOT taking any passengers, so if you need a ride to the playa, please start NOW to arrange a ride with others who are going.
This year we really need everyone to pitch in and be a full partner with the camp. We must have shifts where people actually are present to handle the running of the roller rink. We must get together to do maintenance on the skaters and be sure they’re not a hazard for anyone. We need to organize MOOP control. And then there’s the bar.
2011 was our worst red mark on the moop map. Now we are green all the way!!! We must make picking up moop a priority concern. The concept of "leave no trace" is NOT just a cool saying or hip phrase. It is a concept that everyone in BRC must adhere to. We have to do a better job. Now there was a hellacious dust storm on our last day that started in the morning and never stopped, so we did our best, but we all must do better next time.
WHO’S GOING TO BURNING MAN. Please reply to Sk8GodFather@earthlink.net if you are planning to camp with us. I have included a cost breakdown. There are always other costs, but this is verY close. Can you think of anything else we need? Everyone will have to bring some water to replenish the 30 gallon water barrel we will have for the shower. Everyone must bring some kind of alcohol for the bar. Also everyone should bring a container of gasoline for the generator . I budgeted for 80 gallons, but I think we may need more seeing that I will be there for about 17 days.
