San Francisco roller skaters have long been proponents of the concept of "recreational asphalt". For 43 years skaters people have been coming to Kennedy Drive in San Francisco's Golden Gate Park on Sundays when there are no cars.  The closed roads become a safe recreational paradise for runners, walkers, skaters, cyclists and others who are looking to escape the pressures of the fast paced city lifestyle and enjoy themselves in a lush, green sylvan environment.

Join us on on nine (9) dates in 2010, as the California Outdoor Rollersports Association will join with other groups and organizations in San Francisco as we take that  concept out of the park and into the streets of San Francisco.

Come experience the concept of "Recreational Asphalt" in the many different neighborhoods, streets and districts in San Francisco from the waterfront along the Embarcadero, to the streets of the Mission, the Sunset's Ocean Beach, the Beautiful Bayview as and much much more.  You can ride your bike, roller skate, run or walk, learn to dance, enjoy the activity pods and health/fitness fairs along the route.  The best thing is its all FREE!

Even AT&T Park will be open on some dates so that you can go onto the field and run the bases like an all-star.  This will be a fantastic opportunity to bring the family for a great time in San Francisco.

The Roller Skating Pod is being presented by C.O.R.A. in conjunction with DMJ Skate Sports Marketing.  We will be presenting a free skating experience for all the participants that come out to enjoy Sunday Streets.

We will transform the streets into a roller disco scene from Golden Gate Park.  There will be free skate rentals, free skate lessons and Disco/Funk music from 10AM to 3PM.

There will be Rollersoccer Skate Demos every hour.  There will be skate dance performances featuring the "Jai Ho" dance from the movie "Slumdog Millionaire" and a performance of the "Thriller Dance"

            Proposed dates and locations include:
  • March 14: Embarcadero, starting at Fisherman’s Wharf and PIER 39, south to China Basin and Terry Francois Blvd.
  • April 11: Along the Great Highway, coinciding with World Health Day’s “1,000 Cities, 1,000 Lives” international event, as one of thousands of cities hosting simultaneous car-free events worldwide.
