SKATE AGAINST VIOLENCE

SAN FRANCISCO TO SANTA MONICA

WOULD YOU LIKE TO PARTICIPATE IN THE 2008 SKATE AGAINST VIOLENCE ROADSKATE AS A SKATER?

HERE'S WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW

Click here to register to be a SAV Roadskate Participant or make a donation to help us make it happen

This is not a race or world record attempt.  This is a rolling anti-violence campaign designed to showcase the health, social and ecological benefits of skating as recreation, physical fitness and alternative transportation.

We will have one 27 foot RV vehicle that sleeps 6 comfortably and another 21 foot RV that sleeps 4 comfortably.  We will have a total of 9 skaters that will form 3 teams.  Each team will rotate skating every hour.  At night each skater will do an hour solo.   At all times the skaters will skate in front of the RV.  We will skate on the shoulder of the roadway.

We'll fix up the teams when we all get together.  We will get the fast skaters with the other fast skaters and the people like me with the people like me.  As the three people skate as a team they will rotate the leader so that everyone leads and everyone follows.  "Working together to reach a common goal" is the example the team skating is meant to project.  We all want to do great things, but we all must work together to make great things happen.

The drivers will mark the mileage each team's distance while skating.  He will mark the beginning and ending mileage of each skater.  A skater can skate as many miles as they want to, but they MUST skate with their team when it is their team's rotation.  A skater can potentially skate the entire way, but this is not what we are encouraging. (unless someone really wants to) As for me, I will do my time as presented.  I'll use the rest of my time videotaping the experience for everyone.

Each skater participating must put up $500.00 each towards covering the costs of the roadskate. With 9 skaters that will raise $4,500.00.  Payments must be made to C.O.R.A. 830 26th Ave. S.F. Ca. 94121. The $500.00 payment must be received no later than April 7, 2008.

(closing roads for recreation)   Your payment of $500.00 towards the costs of the roadskate is tax deductible. We will give you a receipt with our tax ID number so you can claim the deduction on your 2008 tax return.

We plan to leave on Monday, April 14 at about 9:00 A.M. The RV's will be here in front of my home from Saturday, April 12.  Please pack lightly.  There is not a lot of room to store things.  There are compartments to put bags and skates.  There are also compartments to put food and a refrigerator.

We will have a press event in Golden Gate Park on Sunday April 13 at about 2PM.  Everyone making the trip should be there.  There will be politicians and celebs making speeches and soaking up skating.

That's about it.  We have done CalTrans and we have 4 other permit letters from past SAV Roadskates.  I will post the route later today.  Please check out the reasons for the Skate Against Violence at http://www.cora.org/WhySkateAgainstViolence.htm
