Skaters will roll past the vineyards and wineries along a 7 mile closed section of the Silverado Trail in the world famous Napa Wine Valley. The course is totally closed to traffic for the race.
We’re planning 3 days of skating starting with the San Francisco Friday Night Skate, a winery tour and Calistoga Skate Party on Saturday and the Napa Valley Inline Marathon and picnic on Sunday.
The course has everything that makes a fantastic roadskate from the long stretches of flatland to rolling hills – some that will fill your need for speed. The road is very smooth “black ice” asphalt all the way and will be totally closed to cars during the event.
This year, we will continue to have two distances for participants. We have the traditional 26.2 mile marathon and a 13.1 mile half marathon distance for recreational and fitness skaters new to roadskating.
LODGING IN CALISTOGA
Finding a place to stay in the Napa Valley is always a difficult situation as the Napa Wine Country is a very popular place where people plan many months in advance to visit. The longer you wait, the harder it will be to find a hotel. We are meeting The Silver Rose Winery / Spa / Inn in Calistoga has served as our host hotel in the past, however it is being sold and their participation in 2008 is unsure at best.
The best way to attend this event is to camp out. The Calistoga Fairgrounds is a fantastic place to camp out in July. If camping is not your style, the best place to stay is the Napa Valley Redwood Inn. This is one of the few places where you can stay in the Napa Valley without the two-night minimum. This is where the skaters usually stay when we start the roadskate. One night stay is $125.00 for a room with one bed and $137.00 for 2 beds. There is a 10% discount for AAA members. START TIME
The race will take place on Sunday, July 13, 2008. Registration will open at 5:00 A.M. near the start line located on the Silverado Trail at Oak Knoll Road. Skaters meeting will be at 6:40 A.M. The roadskate will start at 7:00 A.M. SHARP!!!
RACE COURSE
We will start on the Silverado Trail at Oak Knoll Road. We will skate north bound 6.55 miles to a 180 degree turn around near the intersection of Silverado Trail and Oakville Cross Road. We will skate back south bound on the Silverado Trail to the start line to another 180 degree turn. Half Marathon skaters will skate one lap. Full Marathon skaters will skate two laps.
WILL THE ROAD BE CLOSED TO TRAFFIC?
Yes. A 7 mile section of the Silverado Trail will be closed to all traffic for three hours. The California Highway Patrol will block off every intersection during the race keeping ALL cars off the road and keep you safe
IS THIS A “RACE” ?
Yes, if you’re racing and no if you’re going at your own pace.. The event will be timed. The elite racers will be able to race unimpeded along the course. We are not a huge corporate event like others large inline events. .The event is designed more for the recreational or fitness skater.

Every participant will receive an event T shirt. Prizes will be awarded to top 5 men and women in the elite class and to the top three men and women in each age category in the citizen class skaters

IS THIS FOR RACERS ONLY OR CAN ANYONE SKATE ?
The Napa Valley Inline Marathon and Half Marathon is designed to give all levels of skaters a fantastic skating experience. It’s great racing for the hard core racers. It’s a high mark of accomplishment for the fitness skater or enthusiast. It’s an absolute blast for the recreational skater. There is a little something for all. You can wear 4 wheel blades, 5 wheel blades or even “quad” conventional roller skates.
Please remember that helmets are mandatory in all C.O.R.A. events. Wrist, hand, knee pads and elbow pads are very strongly advised.
We have put together the newspaper and magazine articles and the race results that have been written about the roadskate since the first one in 1993. Read the stories from the humble beginnings of the race to confrontations with the California Highway Patrol and back to the good graces of the Calistoga community.

26 miles on the Silverado Trail is a lot to bite off for a first time inline skater. If this is your first time in a roadskate event, we invite you to come participate in the Half Marathon at the C.O.R.A. member rate. E-mail [email protected] if you have never participated in an inline race before.
Outdoor skating is a fantastic way to get a great workout while having a great time. The closed roads create “recreational asphalt” where youth and adults alike can have an opportunity to experience what a great sport and fun, healthy activity inline skating and roller skating can be. There will be skates available along with helmets and pads for those Napa Valley residents ready to give inline skating a try the morning of the race along the flat, safe portion of the roadway.
HOW TO GET TO THE START OF THE RACE
From S.F. take the Bay Bridge I-80 eastbound through Vallejo to the Napa exit at Hwy 37 near Marine World in Vallejo. Take the Hwy 37 exit left to Hwy 29. Turn right and follow Hwy 29 north. As you come to Napa you will see a sign that says “Napa” and arrows pointing to the right. Don’t follow it. Stay on Hwy 29 to the Trancas exit. Turn right and follow Trancas Road to the Silverado Trail. Turn left and follow the Silverado Trail about 3 miles to the start of the race at Oak Knoll Road.

RELEASE OF LIABILITY AGREEMENT
The undersigned applicant hereby agrees to and does release David G. Miles Jr., D M J Skate Sports Marketing, the California Outdoor Rollersports Association, the City and County of Napa, the City of Calistoga, the Golden Gate Park Skate Patrol, the Boy Scouts Of America, or any other associated entities (herein known as “sponsors”) from any responsibility and liability arising out of the applicant’s participation in the “Napa Valley Inline Marathon and Half Marathon”. (herein referred to as roadskate”)
The undersigned applicant agrees to and acknowledges that he or she assumes all risk incident to his or her involvement in the roadskate. The applicant agrees that he or she will not sue or make any claims whatsoever against the sponsors
Applicant acknowledges that this event involves skating up and down hills on state or county roadways and agrees to obey all event rules, traffic laws, local police, and California Highway Patrol during the roadskate.
Applicant and those signing in their behalf agrees further that the term “applicant” includes the undersigned and his or herheirs, assigns, agents and legal representatives and that the term “sponsor” includes all past, present and future subsidiaries, franchises, affiliates, officers, directors, employees and agents of the sponsors including their heirs, agents and legal representatives.
Applicant hereby authorizes D.M.J. Skate Sports Marketing to videotape, photograph, or otherwise record the image of the applicant during the roadskate.
